Cécile Canuel a rencontré la peinture en 1998 grâce à la musique. New York, 1999 : passionnée par l’histoire du jazz et les sensations fortes que provoque cette musique, par la ville de Manhattan et ses vibrations, elle ressent l’intense besoin de traduire sur la toile ses propres émotions. Depuis…elle est en état d’occupation intense.

La ville, la route, l’ivresse ; urbaine, musicale, du corps ou de l’esprit… Essence des sens. Mélange parfait du solide et du fragile. Ces thèmes se partagent le mystère qui me fait vivre la peinture. Je travaille l’occupation de l’espace comme un architecte construit sa ville, incluant dans la construction matière et relief. Sentir, ressentir, toucher, appréhender, apprivoiser le matériau. Le faire devenir mien. Vivacité des couleurs. Elles influent sur le rythme, empreint de touches musicales. Danse de tonalités. Gestes secs, précis, mouvements en suspens, tumultes et vibrations incessantes sont autant d'appels au rythme qu'au bien être du corps et de l'esprit. L'imaginaire s'envol, l'interrogation, le rejet ou l'adhésion prennent leur place, l'émotion commence son travail. Irrationnel”.

Cécile Canuel discovered painting in 1998, thanks to music.
