Fasciné depuis toujours par la poétique
du vol, Gonzalo Lebrija au long de ces dernières années
a
exploré dans son oeuvre les notions de liberté, légèreté,
jeu, pouvoir, aventure et fantaisie, au travers
d'images/situations teintées d'un humour existentiel, frôlant
l'onirisme et le romantisme et se
détachant souvent de la déconstruction candide de la
figure héroïque.
Pour "La nuit étoilée", sa première
exposition à la galerie Laurent Godin, l’artiste mexicain,
reprend le
thème du vol d'un point de vue intimiste. Catch my Fall est
une vidéo qui capte la séquence ralentie où l'on peut distinguer l'artiste, dans un pyjama évoquant un ciel étoilé,
rebondir effrontément sur le lit
d'une chambre d'hôtel. A mi-chemin entre espièglerie enfantine
et voyage lysergique, Catch my Fall et
son va-et-vient hypnotique rappelle, à distance, la scène
douce, délirante et exacte du globe terrestre
du « Dictateur » de Chaplin.
Gonzalo Lebrija has always been fascinated by the poetics of flight.
He has spent these past years
exploring the notions of liberty, lightness, play, power, adventure,
and fantasy in his work through
image-situations tinged with existential humour, verging on oneiric
romanticism, and often breaking
free from the candid deconstruction of the heroic figure.
For his first exhibition at the galerie Laurent Godin, the mexican
artist returns to the theme of flight
from intimist viewpoint. Catch My Fall is a video that transmits a
slow-motion sequence where you see
the artist, dressed in pyjamas that evoke a starry sky, bouncing cheekily
up and down on a hotel bed.
Halfway between childish high jinks and a lysergic trip, from a distance
Catch My Fall and its hypnotic
bouncing recalls the sweetly outrageous globe scene in Chaplin’s
The Great Dictator.
